All ceramics are made exclusively handcrafted. The most important tools are the hands. Only after that comes the potter´s wheel and plate roller. With the plate roller it is easier to roll the clay into large uniformly thick plates. The work with the potter´s wheel, however, requires years of practice. As in Japan, the bonsai students learn only the watering before they practice other work on the trees; the potters have to training their hand on the wheel. The rotated cylinders they form are halved by the master and the wall thickness tested. Only when the trainee is able to rotate a uniform thickness the blank are further processed and sold. That alone takes about a year, just for small vessels. Potters which rotate large vessels with more than 10kg clay usually need 4-5 years of experience.
